“If I could pick the best brother, I would pick you.” ~Unknown

Brothers. Best friends. Bonded for life.

These two are inseparable.

Over the last year and a half I have had the pleasure of watching Kaden and Cameron grow together as siblings and as the kind of friends who would lay down their life for the other {even if only in Fortnite!}.

I’ll never forget how each of them came to me, separately, and shared how they were each other’s best friend, just a few months into Kaden’s transition. It was not what I expected to happen, since their relationship before was rocky, at best, as one of them got to live the life the other prayed for and dreamed about.

But now, they are each other’s first choice, they share in each other’s joys and heartaches, they have each other’s back, and aren’t afraid to say I love you. They annoy each other, too, of course, but always manage to work it out and move on.

I always hoped that they would connect and be close, but didn’t think it would happen before adulthood. Their relationship has taken me, AND THEM, by surprise and it’s truly the gift, of this transition, that keeps on giving.

When all this began, I had a hard time envisioning what our future would look like with an oldest son instead of a daughter.  I still don’t have all the pieces put together {who does, anyway?}, but one thing I do see:  two boys growing into men, celebrating their most important days, standing side by side.

And I love this future more than any words can express.
